While Cora's first word in English was mama, her first word in Spanish reflects her great love for food. Since we have decided to continue speaking English to Cora on a regular basis we speak Spanish to each other when we are hoping she won't understand.
One of our food addictions here is a unique and amazingly tasty thing called Mosto. It is grape juice, but very different. It comes in glass bottles and it uses more of the grape than most juice sold in the states-- don't ask me how! Anyway, we down a bottle a day amongst our family, and generally can't get it out during a meal because it diverts Cora's attention from the food.
At dinner a few days ago we were discussing in Spanish whether Cora had eaten enough food to justify breaking out the mosto. When she heard the word mosto, Cora's face lit up, she signed juice and chirped mo-mo!
Spanish is no longer the secret language...

I love it!!!
Yum. Hey, how long do they leave that "grape juice" sitting around before the sell it? Just wondering. I mean it sounds fairly addicting. And you guys pull it out when Cora's not looking and everything. Not so sure about that mosto. . .
:)
Spelling may be the last easy secret language left to you. :) Perhaps it will work longer if you alternate spelling between spanish and english?? That might keep that smart baby a little confused. You might even want to spell other words too during dinner so she doesn't figure out the spelling secret too fast. But parents can only use that for awhile.....
Does this juice have more body, or pulp in it than american grape juice?
Reminds me of the really good apple cider we bought one time in the mountains of North Carolina. Used parts of the apple that weren't even there originally! We had to have some of our non-LDS friends clue us in later about the southern distinction between cider and juice.
That is so funny. I'm still working on Mommy. She would say it a while back but now Dadda is what she says for both parents and grandparents.
Uh oh! Now you're going to have to start spelling things!
That is so cute! (and yummy) Do you guys know any other language? I know how mom and dad had me stumped when they started speaking pig latin. You could just think up a neutral word to replace recognizable works. Good luck! What a smart baby!
