G7, a poem by Cora

Cora and her friend, Ryan Scribner, are two weeks into ukulele lessons with me. So far they've done really well learning the C chord and now we've moved on to the G7. On the uke a C is played with one finger so everyone gets it quickly. G7 takes a little more finagling because you have to use three fingers and squeeze them into a pretty tight space, making a little triangle. Playing the chord is easier once kids learn to bend their fingers and play with their fingertips instead of the flat pads. Both Ryan and Cora are working on that particular skill. It will come. In the meantime, there is practicing to be done.

I stopped in to check on Cora practicing today, and she informed me that she had written a poem to help her remember how to make the chord. It's worth sharing.

"G7", a poem by Cora

My ukulele
My three fingers
My tips only
And that's that.
